Santos Prefecture wants to honor Pelé; monument drawn by Niemeyer can be built

The Prefeitura de Santos presented one of the girls of Pelé, Flávia Arantes, three proposals to honor the player, known as Rei do Futebol, in the city. The meeting took place in the last terça-feira (14), at Paço Municipal.

In a note, the prefecture explained the projects: naming of one of the streets or avenues of the city for “Edson Arantes do Nascimento”, installation of a monument designed by Oscar Niemeyer and activities at the Pelé Museum, with new exhibitions, educational and cultural activities, not Largo Marquês de Monte Alegre.

The monument will have a sphere, an arch and the image of Pelé giving a hand to the arch. The forecast is that it is approximately 20 meters high and is installed in the port area, in Ponta da Praia or in the Submarine Emissary.

The plan was delivered to Flávia for analysis and authorization by the player’s family. If approved, the municipality will start the necessary procedures for the realization of the proposals.
