The temperature in the city of Rio de Janeiro reached 41.1ºC on Saturday (4), with a thermal sensation of 58ºC in Santa Cruz, west of Rio de Janeiro. Second or Rio Alert – monitoring system of the prefeitura – the thermal sensation is the highest since 2009, when the organ began to do the measurement.
This summer, as I remember back then, had been recorded on January 15, when the thermometers marked 40.3ºC, with a thermal sensation of 54ºC.
The meteorologist from Alerta Rio Juliana Hermsdorff explains that “the presence of arquent in various levels of the atmosphere, together with the high temperature and humidity on the surface, will cause a thermal sensation of 58ºC”.
Juliana adds that “the thermal sensation is a calculation made with measured meteorological variables, to quantify the temperature that the human body feels, in a generalized way”.
