New Secretary of Security of the DF is announced; scheme for posse no Congresso will be adjusted

The government of the Federal District (DF) announces in this fourth fair (25) the delegate Sandro Avelar, of the Federal Police (PF), as the new Secretary of Public Security. Previously, to CNN I rushed that my name was chosen in the meeting with the governor in office, Celina Leão.

The federal intervention in the security of the DF ends on January 31, but the name was brought forward so that it will remain in transition, as explained by the authorities.

Currently, the person in charge of the sector is the auditor Ricardo Cappelli. He was picked up after Anderson Torres was exonerated from the position of secretary due to the criminal attacks on the Three Powers.

During the press conference in which Avelar’s name was confirmed, the governor pointed out that this is a moment in which collaboration between the federal and DF governments is necessary.

She praised Cappelli’s performance and affirmed that advance notice would help the new secretary to be familiar with the security scheme set up for the representatives and senators, which takes place on February 1st.

The intervenor, in turn, affirmed that the federal government is “completely in agreement” with the announcement and that Rosa Weber, president of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), and Arthur Lira, president of the Chamber of Deputies, will ask for special attention for the security at the opening of the Legislative and Judicial year.

“Our challenge is this: to restore balance, to tranquility, to normalize the security forces of the DF”, he said.

Avelar falou quickly, noting that he received the invitation “with much honor and also as a missão”, emphasizing that he trusts “absolutely in the security forces of the Federal District”.

In the government of Jair Bolsonaro (PL), in 2021, he acted as executive director of the PF — or “number two” of the corporation. Avelar has been Secretary of Public Security of the DF, between 2011 and 2014, under the mandate of Agnelo Queiroz (PT).

Ricardo Cappelli also highlighted that the security plan for two deputies and senators, well as the opening of the judicial year, is already soon, but that intelligence information will be collected to carry out a “fine adjustment”.

“There will be a plan soon, which will be reviewed at the next second fair, on the 30th, at 5:00 p.m., therefore, 48 hours before,” he said.

“We are going to make a condescending mobilization that will have two deputies and senators and the election of the tables of both houses, as well as the reopening of the judicial year,” he added.

When asked if any threat was detected, he reported that “there is nothing alarming, but there is a sense of prevention.”
