Justice decrees pre-trial detention for the death of a UFPI student

Justice decreed the preventive detention of Thiago Mayson da Silva Barbosa, suspected of killing and raping 22-year-old journalism student Janaína da Silva Bezerra, during a heat reception event at the Federal University of Piauí (UFPI).

Janaína’s body was found on Saturday morning (28), on the University campus. Thiago’s prison was feita in flagrante, after he took the body of the youth to the hospital. The victim has left without sinais vitais, bloodied in her private parts and with marks of aggression.

A prisoner in flagrante was converted into preventive prison after a decision given on Sunday (29). The document says that “there is sufficient proof of the materiality and, still, strong indications of the authorship of the fact.”

Even though Thiago does not have a criminal record, Justiça argued that preventive detention would be essential, since the freedom of the accused during the trial could compromise the guarantee of public order due to the gravity of the crime.

“In this way, it is inviable to the application of various precautionary measures in prison, because the specific gravity of the criminal conduct indicates that the public order would not be protected with the ease of custody,” the decision declares.

Suspeito alleges “consensual sex”

Second award of the Teresina Legal Medicine Institute (IML), there are indications that Janaína would have been a victim of sexual violence. The cause of death was a “spinal trauma due to blunt force action”, or it is said, there was a contusion of the vertebral column at the cervical level, which caused a spinal cord injury.

The legal representative responsible for the case stated that the “forceful action could have been caused by knocking, twisting or traumatizing the vertebral column.” Another possibility investigated is the action of the hands not fishing the victim, “with the intention of killing or causing suffocation, stays, fights.”

The Homicídios e Proteção à Pessoa (DHPP) Department investigates the incident, with the conduct of interviews, examinations and local expertise on crime. The police investigation will be concluded in ten days.

No complaint to the Civil Police, or defendant affirmed that he had never known the victim and teriam “fied” on other occasions.

O suspeito alleges that, for around 2 hours a day, he would have invited the young man to one of the classrooms, where he “practiced consensual sex”. The victim was found discordant on two occasions, the last one being for 4 hours, and the victim remained by her body throughout the early morning. Immediately, he says he has requested help from the security of the university by return at 9 a.m. in the morning.

A CNN, or the responsible delegate, in the case, stated that he suspected he was a graduate student in mathematics from UFPI, and that the victim was found in the room of the Post-Graduation Program in Mathematics. Not local, blood was found at the entrance to the room, as well as on a table and a mattress.
