Harry Styles dancers expose technical error in the performance of “As It Was“

After the presentation of the single “As It Was” on the night of last Sunday (5) at the 65th edition of the Grammy, two dancers of the British artist Harry Styles reported in their profiles on Tik Tok and Instagram a technical error on the turntable used in the choreography, that referred to the dinners of the musical video clip, released in March 2022.

The “record player” was working in a clockwise direction, the direction in which the singer and his ballet had rehearsed for 10 days. The choreography, by Yoann Bourgeois, must be adapted live, with the movements reproduced in opposite orientation.

At the beginning of the presentation, Styles made a subtle gesture with his left hand and tried to call the attention of two technicians for the problem. In the event, the camera of the event showed a small bump, when he tried to get off the platform and needed to pull the inclined side to perform with his band by his side.

According to the account of Brandon Mathis in the stories of Instagram, a two dancers of the team, or the bad performance of the compromised box that had been rehearsed.

“Or that you do not know that at the moment the curtain opened and closed at the time of the presentation, our record player began to turn in the opposite direction, backwards, scaring all of us on live TV,” he affirmed.

“There was nothing we could do to stop it. So, after a week rehearsing that piece going perfectly one way, at the moment when it’s time to play, it starts to go the other way and, in real time, we have to solve problems and make the whole piece the opposite. Professionalism, ”she recounted.

Dexter Da Rocha, also a member of the ballet corps, recorded his experience on TikTok. “Let’s do the rehearsal with the costumes and it was cute. We are ready.”

For her, the mistake was frustrating. “When a performance starts, the record player starts to go in the wrong direction. So, we tried to call the technician’s attention and we couldn’t yell. He doesn’t understand what we’re talking about”.

“Já that the box is circular, it places you in different directions. Having to move all the ‘parents’ as soon as something moves, and having all that spatial perception, working with people you didn’t know before, knowing that we had never walked in that direction, was a huge challenge”, he stressed.

A young man praised Styles, mentioning that he “due the best of himself to be able to walk and invest everything while he sang all or his duet, or that it was incredible. Unfortunately, the means of communication did not know what was happening. They call us lethargic or flat, but we are just trying to get by.”

Both videos are deleted from social networks.

In addition to the performance of the former member of the boyband One Direction, Styles won two categories at the award with his album Harry’s House: Album of the Year, main prize of the night, and best pop song and best solo performance.
