99 announced at the sixth fair (17) that it will include the activities of its food delivery application, or 99 Food, not Brazil. The activities of the application will be active until April 17 and, after or during the period, the company will include a partnership with non-app restaurants.
“As a company, we decided to concentrate a lot of our resources in the development of services for both roads, with the expansion of 99Moto and 99Entrega Moto in delivery. For this reason, we decided to discontinue the 99Food application as of April 17, 2023, informed 99 in a note.
A startup controlled by the Chinese Didi Chuxing affirmed that it has not communicated to the partners about the closures of the activities, but that it hopes that the logistics built with the app will, in the future, meet individual delivery demands – the idea would be to attend only with the deliveries and none com a service platform for the client.
In September of last year, the Chinese 99 left nearly 100 people in the country, in the midst of the global crisis of the company. At the time, however, the company informed that an employee of the 99 Food division had been injured.
The closure of the app will be among the other delivery services in Brazil that try to survive in the midst of the dominance of companies such as iFood and Rappi, which hold a greater part of the market in this sector. In March of last year, Uber also decided to shut down the operation of Uber Eats, a similar food delivery service, citing a company restructuring process.
