According to the information on the website of the High Council of Religious Affairs, people who have not fasted Ramadan even though they are obliged to do so, or who have been unable to do so due to an excuse, first determine the number of fasts they have not fasted. They make up for this fast on days other than Eid days when fasting is prohibited.
It is appropriate to intend for each accident fast to be held with the phrase, “The first fast that I have debt on me.”
How are accident fasts calculated?
There are two situations in calculating the missed fasts.
– The person may not have fasted at all since he was obliged to do so. In this case, he keeps his fasts on the basis of one lunar month for every year that has passed since puberty. (29 or 30 days; 30 days is preferable as a precaution)
– The person may have left some fasts to accident after being liable. In this case, the number of fasts that are not kept as much as possible is calculated and made up daily.
Those who leave their fast without an excuse should also repent and seek forgiveness.
