Four young people were dragged, this Friday at dawn, by the waves on Lagoa beach, in Póvoa de Varzim: three were rescued alive and a 20-year-old girl is missing.
The group of young people was dragged by the waves on Lagoa beach, in the town of Aver-o-Mar. The alert was given at 4.48 am.
“The young people were near the waterline and were caught by the swell. A young woman aged about 20 is missing and the other three were rescued alive and taken to Hospital da Póvoa”, the Porto captain and commander told Lusa. -location of the Maritime Police of Póvoa de Varzim and Vila do Conde, Ferreira Teles.
The three rescued youths were stable and conscious.
“At the moment land searches are underway to find the young woman because the harbor bar is closed due to the sea turmoil”, he explained.
At 7.10 am, members of the Póvoa de Varzim Firefighters, the Maritime Police and members of the captaincy’s lifeguard station were at the scene.
The entire maritime coast of mainland Portugal is under yellow warning, from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) due to strong maritime agitation.
