2,644 ballot boxes set up for elections in the country were opened at 07:00 local time. 3 million 496 thousand 475 registered voters, announced by Turkmenistan’s Central Elections and Referendums Board, are voting to elect deputies who will represent them in the Turkmenistan Assembly for 5 years, and members who will represent them in the People’s Maslahat and local government bodies.
In the elections of the 7th term deputies of the history of the independence of Turkmenistan, the members of the 5th term regional and district public affairs, and the representatives of the 9th term local government bodies, 3 political parties and civil initiative groups, namely the Turkmenistan Democratic Party, the Turkmenistan Industrialists and Entrepreneurs Party and the Turkmenistan Agricultural Party candidates are included. For the parliamentary elections, a total of 258 candidates, including 175 candidates from 3 political parties and 83 independent candidates from civil initiative groups, are competing for 125 seats in the parliament.
Representatives of 2,855 local and approximately 80 international organizations are present in the elections as observers.
In addition, 75 thousand 606 voters over the age of 18 are voting for the first time in the elections.
