US Secretary of State Blinken: The United States wants to return to UNESCO
The US wants to return to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). This was stated by United States Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, reports TASS.
“I sincerely believe that we should return to UNESCO, not as a gift for UNESCO: what happens there matters. It is important for us to return there,” he said.
According to the Secretary of State, many US rivals reproach them for their frivolous attitude towards international organizations. Therefore, Blinken noted Washington’s intention to pay membership dues on time.
Washington’s statement came against the backdrop of Ukraine’s desire to include the historical center of Chernihiv in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Earlier, Ukraine achieved inclusion in this list of the historical center of Odessa. This status gave the Ukrainian authorities the opportunity to request “enhanced technical and financial international assistance” to ensure his protection and recovery in the event of damage to him.
Russia pointed out that the decision on Odessa was made under pressure from Western countries, bypassing the rules of procedure. The Russian side emphasized that the main criteria for considering the nomination were violated.
