Blinken: Washington will continue to protect human rights in China and around the world
Washington will continue to protect human rights and fundamental freedoms in China and around the world, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken promised. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
With such a statement, the official made on the eve of the 34th anniversary of the student protests on Tiananmen Square in Beijing, which took place in 1989. Blinken also emphasized that Washington considers the measures that were then taken to deal with the protesters as “brutal repression” directed by the Chinese government against “peaceful Chinese pro-democracy protesters and their supporters.”
Earlier, the Secretary of State announced the unwillingness of the United States to wage a cold war with China. In addition, he noted that in his 30 years of work in the civil service, he had not seen the countries of the West, Europe and leading partners in Asia develop such close positions on China.
On June 4, 1989, in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square, the Chinese military shot down demonstrators who advocated for democratic freedoms and the fight against corruption.
