United States: after a landslide, some houses on the edge of the abyss

Many residents had to leave their homes in a hurry after a landslide in California.

In California (United States), a swimming pool at the edge of the precipice threatens to fall into the void. A sudden landslide swept away many houses and forced residents to leave their homes. “I heard a huge noise, I saw that the terrace had disappeared. It’s very frustrating, because it’s a very beautiful place”testifies a resident of San Clemente. “The garden is gone, it must be somewhere down the hill.”

    Unheard of in the region

This landslide follows 15 days of torrential rains in the region. With erosion affecting part of California, the ocean is gaining ground. “We had simply never seen that in the region, it’s unusual. But we have to be ready for it to happen again in the future”, warns the mayor of the city, Chris Duncan. Several dozen residents have been forced to leave their homes because of the instability of the ground, without knowing when they will be able to return to them.
