Diplomats from Ukraine will lay flowers at the Noah Wahe Memorial to the victims of war and tyranny in Germany.
Ukrainian diplomats in Germany this year, flowers will not be placed at the Soviet memorials in Berlin on May 8 and 9.
These memorials reflect the view of the aggressor country on the events that took place during the Second World War, explained Oleksiy Makeev, Ambassador of Ukraine to Germany, in an interview DW.
He noted that Ukraine and Ukrainians learned a very important lesson after the victory over Nazism in Europe after the Second World War.
“We have always said ‘never again’. But, unfortunately, the Russian Federation has brought war to Europe in the 21st century and is using almost the same methods in Ukraine as Nazi Germany. I cannot go to a Soviet memorial where Russian propaganda talks about the events of 1941-45, forgetting about the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, the Russian invasion of Poland, Finland, etc. Therefore, I decided that we will lay a wreath at the Memorial to the Victims of War and Tyranny in Germany Noe Wahe. We will go there together with the Ukrainian community peacefully, with Ukrainian flags,” he said.
In addition, the diplomat said that he considers it necessary to raise the question of Germany’s personal responsibility to Ukraine during the Second World War, as it is very important.
We will remind, earlier it was reported that the Russian invaders banned mass gatherings in the occupied territories on May 9.
In addition, we previously informed that the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy explained why Ukrainians from 2023 on May 9 will celebrate Europe Day and not Victory Dayas it was before.
