Modern technologies can significantly speed up demining of the territory of Ukraine.
A pilot project for testing global mine detection technologies in real conditions has been launched in Ukraine. It is planned to be implemented in May this year at one of the training grounds, far from the combat zone, in cooperation with the Ministry of Defense and the State Emergency Service.
The project was initiated by the United Nations Development Program, informs press service of the Ministry of Economy.
The task is to test the survey of potentially dangerous territory with the help of drones. Specialists plan to examine 50 hectares of territory with explosive objects on the surface and underground.
“The conditions of the project include difficult terrain with the presence of vegetation, do not exclude difficult weather conditions. The companies that will participate in the pilot project can use any technology they consider necessary to collect and analyze data from the object,” it says messages
The test report will include, in particular, coordinates of accurately detected mines, object type, photos, field notes, time stamp, metadata, and more.
At the moment, 174 thousand square kilometers of the territory of Ukraine need to be examined for the presence of explosive objects. Specialists will have an extremely large volume of work, but modern technologies can significantly speed up demining.
We will remind, according to Sky News, almost half of the territory of Ukraine is mined. According to the World Bank, the full range of humanitarian demining works in Ukraine will cost 37.4 billion dollars.
