Clube Desportivo do Candal, from the parish of Santa Marinha, Vila Nova de Gaia, is one of the 74 teams from 34 clubs, from various parts of the country, that participate in the VIII edition of the Beja Cup, a competition that also extends through the days on Sunday and then on the 17th and 18th of June, involving 1100 young footballers.

The Gaia team, which competes in the sub14 level, traveled around 500 kilometers to arrive in Beja yesterday, but the Sport Clube Beira-Mar sub11 team is also present in the competition, which traveled from Aveiro.

The Beja Cup, whose godfather Francisco Agatão, a former player of the club and who wore the jersey of Boavista Futebol Clube, is organized by the Clube Desportivo de Beja (CDBeja), will have as scenery the natural turf and the two synthetic ones of the Complexo Desportivo Fernando Mamede, in Beja, and the synthetic turf of Penedo Gordo, a village located five kilometers from the county seat.

The tournament will have competitions in the men’s sub7, sub9, sub10, sub11, sub13 and sub14 levels and in the women’s sub16. In addition to the footballers, the organization revealed that Beja will receive over the four days of competition over 4000 people assigned to the staff of the teams and the athletes’ families.

The tournament has a budget of 120,000 euros, with CDBeja having the logistical support of the Infantry Regiment 1 to accommodate the participants in the Beja Cup 2023, and the competition will be directed by a group of 20 referees from the Arbitration Council of Beja and also from Inatel.

This weekend, between 9.30 am and 7.30 pm, 44 games will be played in competitions for the U7, U9, U11 and U14 men’s competitions, and on the 17th and 18th, another 44 matches for the U10 and U13 men’s and Under 16 women.

On the 16th of June, starting at 6 pm, and as part of the celebrations of its 107 years of existence, the Velhas Guardas game will take place between Clube Desportivo de Beja and Sporting Clube de Portugal. Despite being founded in September 1947, the club “was born” from Luso, União and Pax-Júlia, three emblems of the city, having been considered in terms of statutes that “the date of foundation of the Clube Desportivo de Beja, the 16th of June 1916”, as it was the date of creation of Luso Sporting Clube.
