Three women, aged around 50, were run over, this Sunday, by a light passenger car, on the side of a road in Ponte de Lima.
One of the victims was in serious condition and the other two suffered minor injuries, according to the commander of the Ponte de Lima Volunteer Fire Department, Carlos Lima. They were all transported to the hospital in Viana do Castelo.
Also according to commander Carlos Lima, the women were supposedly taking a walk along Rua da Feitosa, on the side of an interior road, which connects Ponte de Lima to Freixo, and were caught by a car driven by a young man, who got lost.
“The driver was on the spot [à chegada dos meios]”, explained the head of the fire department, referring that the circumstances in which the accident occurred are still unknown.
He also added that initially it was thought that the victims could be pilgrims, but “the roads to Santiago do not pass through that place”, where the collision occurred.
