The GNR and the Tax and Customs Authority detained 13 people and seized 77 vehicles that circulated irregularly during a joint inspection and control of goods carried out on the country’s main roads.
In a joint statement, the Tax and Customs Authority (AT) and the GNR state that they carried out, on Tuesday, the “NETWORK III” operation in the tax and customs aspects through inspection actions and intensive control of goods in circulation on the main axes of the country’s road network.
The “preferential targets of the operation” were the goods vehicles and light vehiclesnamely the control of transport and invoicing documents and the circulation of foreign-registered cars.
As a result of the operation, the AT and the GNR point out that 9,319 vehicles were controlled, 13 people were arrested, 11 of which for driving without a legal license and two for drug trafficking and one for the crime of counterfeiting, in addition to 537 tax and customs violations registered by the Tax and Customs Authority and the 913 offenses raised by the GNR, namely road and environmental legislation.
AT and GNR also seized 77 vehicles that circulated irregularly, 62.1 doses of hashish, five doses of cocaine, 15 liters of petroleum products, 4.2 liters of brandy, 37 kilos of fish, 4.75 kilos of univalve molluscs and six pairs of counterfeit shoes.
In this joint national action, AT involved 18 finance departments, nine customs and five customs delegations, in a total of 487 inspectors, and the GNR mobilized 20 territorial commands from all districts and autonomous regions of the Azores and Madeira and the Action Unit Inspector, in a total of 805 military personnel.
