“They put up their flag, they go and wave it: in Germany, Russians beat a Ukrainian because of remarks about the tricolor

In response to the remarks, the Ukrainian heard mats and insults addressed to him. The Russians did not stop there. Women from the wedding procession also joined in the beating.

In Germany, in the city of Odelburg, participants of a Russian wedding cortege knocked to the ground and beat a 61-year-old Ukrainian from Kharkiv, a former ATO volunteer, because he made a remark to them about the Russian tricolor. When eyewitnesses called the police, the Russians fled.

Serhiy from Kharkiv lived in northern Saltivka. According to him, when Russian tanks tried to break through to his hometown, he sent his family to Germany, and in a month, when he turned 60, he himself left.

In 2014-15, Serhiy went to the front as a volunteer, served in the 30th motorized rifle brigade. But then he was younger, now his strength and health are not the same.

“In Germany, the attitude towards us Ukrainians is very good. I remember one time the car door was locked, there were no spare keys, and a dog was left inside. They called a repairman, he came in three minutes and did everything. But in Germany, such a service, and even on a weekend, it costs decently. However, the master looked at the car numbers, asked if we were from Ukraine. And refused to pay, saying that it was his gift to us. That’s how Germans are here,” says Serhiy.

During the year of living in Odelburg, the Ukrainian did not have to come into conflict with the Russians.

On May 23, the day of the incident, he was driving with his daughter. She noticed a Russian car with a tricolor behind the car.

“I looked, and they displayed their flag from the back window, they were driving and waving it. Then the neighbors told me that they were traveling by bus and also watched this wedding procession, the Russians were honking, waving the flag. It annoys the Germans, they don’t behave like that,” says Serhiy .

The man could not stand it, stopped the car, got out and asked the passengers to remove their flag. In response, he heard a Russian mat.

“Then I couldn’t hold back anymore, I grabbed this flag, broke the pole, I’m standing with the flag and I don’t even know where his children are going. Here three strong young guys jump out of the car, three more from the second car, their women ran out. Mat, insults, became they pushed me, knocked me down on the road, pushed me,” the Ukrainian recalls.

The daughter tried to help. But the Russians did not allow filming, broke the phone, did not let the police be called to stop all this. However, they managed to call the police, then the Russian wedding party packed up and left. A patrol appeared in a few minutes.

After all, it was possible to take photos of the cars, we hope that the German law enforcement officers will establish the names of the attackers.

“When the policeman asked me why I tore down the Russian flag, I explained to him that in Ukraine, Russians kill Ukrainians, children, and civilians under this flag. Russia is an aggressor country. The policeman agreed with me,” says the injured Ukrainian.

We will remind you that in the Kherson region near the front, men massacred local people. The suspects face up to 12 years in prison.
