The Ukrainian finished one step away from the flower ceremony in the pursuit at the European biathlon championship

After the “gold” in the sprint, Anastasia Merkushina was unable to win a medal in the pursuit race.

On Saturday, January 28, at European biathlon championship women’s pursuit race was held in Lenzerheide, Switzerland.

Ukraine was represented in it by two athletes: Anastasia Merkushina, who the day before won “gold” in the sprint, and Lyubov Kypyachenkova (number 52 at the start).

Despite the leading starting position, Merkushinia failed to win a medal in this discipline as well. Anastasia made two mistakes on the firing lines and finished seventh – one step away from getting to the flower ceremony.

In turn, Kypyachenkova did not finish the race at all, she was removed as a round after the last shooting.

The other three Ukrainian women – Anna Kryvonos, Yulia Dzyma and Olena Bilosiuk – decided not to start in the pursuit, although they qualified for the race based on the results of the sprint.

Selina Grotian of Germany won the pursuit race. Sweden’s Tilda Johansson became the second, and Frenchman Guilonne Guigonna rounded off the top three winners.
