Ukraine managed to establish the whereabouts of 11 deportees in Hungary and learn their surnames.
Ukraine returned 5 defenders from Hungary, who were transferred to the country by the Russian Orthodox Church. Despite this, the Russian Federation is preparing for the next similar provocations, in particular with the involvement of Hungary.
Andrii Yusov, a representative of the Main Directorate of Intelligence, stated this. transmits Channel 24.
According to him, the Russian Federation is doing this with a specific goal.
“The return of prisoners is something that takes place within the framework of international humanitarian law, according to the Geneva Conventions, informing and participating of Ukraine and necessarily with the participation of the international Red Cross. In this case, we did not see anything. And, of course, this is an unfortunate situation. Ukraine’s task is to ensure that similar things do not happen again and to activate the international community in this direction,” Yusov said.
In particular, Yusov recalled the example of Turkey, which acted as a third party and temporarily sheltered Ukrainian defenders released from Russian captivity. In this case, it was about mutual consent and participation of Ukraine
“If another country came forward with a similar public initiative, then Ukraine would support it. Because for us, the main priority is the return home of all our defenders, as well as civilians. In this situation, we are not talking about humanitarian initiatives, but about Russia’s hostile IPSO,” – emphasized the representative of the GUR.
The Russian Orthodox Church announced at the beginning of June transfer of a group of Ukrainian prisoners of war to Hungary. This happened without any knowledge of the Ukrainian side, and Budapest did not provide Kyiv with information about the deportees for a long time. The story continues to this day.
The next day after this information appeared, Andriy Yusov, representative of the GUR of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, reported on lack of official confirmation from intelligence data on prisoners of war.
On June 16, the Commissioner for Missing Persons Oleg Kotenko reported that Ukraineand it was possible to establish the place of residence 11 deported in Hungary and find out their surnames.
Hungarian government spokesman Zoltan Kovacs said on June 19 that the former prisoners Ukrainians “are now free persons, who can stay in Hungary or leave Hungary at any time of their own free will”.
