Macron called Russia’s attacks on civilian infrastructure war crimes.
French President Emmanuel Macron said that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, who started a bloody war in Ukraine, should be held accountable for war crimes.
The leader of France said this in an interview CBS News.
“I think they made a huge mistake. First, to disrespect international law and violate all the principles that they signed is murderous for their authority. And secondly, because they probably made many mistakes in assessing their capabilities and the capabilities of Ukraine “, Macron said.
Macron also called the Russian missile bombing of the civilian infrastructure of Ukraine a war crime. And to a clarifying question, whether Putin should be brought to justice for these crimes, he answered:
“We must collect all the evidence of war crimes. And this is what we are doing by sending police officers and experts to Ukraine… We must launch all legal initiatives. Therefore, my answer is yes.”
We will remind, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dmytro Kuleba, named genocidal Russian attacks on the critically important civilian infrastructure of Ukraine. The minister cited the article of the Convention on Genocide, under which Russian attacks on Ukraine fall.
Former President of France Emmanuel Macron expressed the opinion that Russia should have a “guarantee” in the future security structure in Europe. He emphasized that Moscow should have its own “security guarantees” when it returns to the negotiating table. At the same time, the French president is sure that the decision to hold negotiations between Russia and Ukraine should be made by Kyiv.
