RBC: the head of “Eksmo-AST” Oleg Novikov announced the growing popularity of samizdat in Russia
Sales of samizdat in the book market of Russia according to the results of the current year can reach 3-4 billion rubles – almost 15 percent of the book market in pieces, said Oleg Novikov, head of Eksmo-AST. It is reported by RBC.
The total volume of the book market is about 200-250 million copies of books. According to Novikov’s forecast, sales could grow to 10 billion rubles in five years.
In his opinion, the growing popularity of samizdat is due to the fact that in this segment the price level is much lower, and many books are “completely provided for reading for free.”
Earlier it became known that due to the termination of cooperation of some foreign writers with Russian book publishers, the lost share of sales of new products by such authors by 2023 will grow to seven percent. According to Oleg Novikov, it will be difficult to replace the departed writers with Russian authors.
