The number of unemployed will increase next year.
The actual number of unemployed in Ukraine is 2.6 million, while only 215,000 are registered with the State Employment Service. Next year, it is predicted that the number of actual unemployed people will increase to 2.8 million people.
About this reported at the Ministry of Economy.
According to Deputy Minister of Economy Tetyana Berezhnaya, there are currently 27,000 vacancies in the State Employment Service (last year at this date there were 61,000), i.e. eight officially registered unemployed are applying for one job.
“If we talk about actual unemployment, then by the end of 2022 we have 2.6 million unemployed people, and in 2023 we forecast a little more than 2.8 million unemployed people,” she said.
What the NBU says
Due to the war, the unemployment rate in Ukraine reached a record 35%, according to the National Bank of Ukraine. However, the migration of Ukrainians abroad and mobilization restrained the growth of the unemployment rate. Without these factors, the situation would be worse, the NBU says.
“By the end of the year, the unemployment rate will decrease from the peak values in the second quarter of 2022 thanks to the recovery of the economy and the increase in the demand for labor. However, as in other countries (for example, the former Yugoslavia), even after the end of active hostilities, unemployment will decrease slowly and will remain at higher levels than before due to the long-term consequences of the war,” the National Bank predicts.
In general, the NBU says, nominal salaries in 2022 will decrease by 12%, and in real terms – by 27%.
We will remind, in Ukraine the unemployed will be recruited into the “Recovery Army”. People will be able to perform socially useful works that have a defensive nature. They will pay the minimum salary for this – 6,700 hryvnias.
