TASS: “Halyk Bank” suspended the service of cards of the Russian payment system “Mir”
The largest in Kazakhstan “Halyl Bank” (Halyl Bank) suspended the service of cards of the Russian payment system “Mir”. This is reported by TASS with reference to an employee of the call center of a credit institution.
“Operations on this payment system do not take place either in terminals or at ATMs. In addition, our bank does not issue Mir cards,” the source said. The bank also clarified that at present, making payments through POS-terminals is suspended, servicing cards at ATMs is also unavailable.
The bank has not yet resumed work with the system, while earlier it became known that the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the US Department of the Treasury (OFAC) allowed Kazakhstani banks to service Mir cards.
In other words, local banks have the right to accept payments and transfers using Mir cards and withdraw cash from ATMs. At the same time, according to OFAC, transactions conducted with the Russian payment system will remain under special control of the United States in order to prevent circumvention of sanctions. Decisions on connection to the Mir system will be made by banks independently, based on their own development strategies.
