The girl strangled her rapist with a T-shirt: she was sent to prison

The court decided that the young woman “used excessive force” when defending herself from rape.

In Mexico, a girl was sentenced to six years and two months in prison for killing the man who raped her. Judges say the young woman “used excessive force” when defending herself.

    About this informs CBS News.

The incident occurred in May 2021. Then 21-year-old Roxana Ruiz, who worked as a saleswoman, met a man who walked her home in the evening and asked to spend the night with her. Ruiz let him sleep on a mattress on the floor, but when she fell asleep, the man climbed into the bed, hit her, tore her clothes and raped her.

She fought back, punching him in the face. In order to free herself from the rapist, who threatened to kill her, the girl began to strangle him with a T-shirt until he died.

The young woman was detained by the police on the street when she tried to dispose of the body.

The court ruled that Ruiz was the victim of rape, but the judge said the woman was guilty of murder with “excessive use of lawful defense”, adding that a blow to the head by the man would have been enough to defend herself.

In addition to the 6 years in prison that the woman must serve, Ruiz was also ordered to pay more than $16,000 in restitution to the family of the man who raped her.

“I regret what I did, but if I hadn’t done it, I would be dead now,” she commented on the announced sentence.

The defendant’s lawyers will appeal this court decision.

We will remind, the American city of Greenville (South Carolina) arrested a former teacher who is accused of repeatedly raping a student.
