Surprised to steal firewood, he assaulted an elderly man with an iron on his head

The Judiciary Police (PJ), in conjunction with the GNR, arrested a man who attacked an 84-year-old elderly man with an iron, who had caught him stealing firewood, in the town of Vale de Açor, Miranda do Corvo.

According to the PJ, the victim caught the 69-year-old defendant stealing firewood, and he reacted violently, “providing himself with an iron bar and brutally assaulting the victim, hitting him in the areas of the head, thorax and legs, causing injuries that put his life at serious risk”.

The elderly man, after being assisted and stabilized by INEM, was transported to the Centro Hospitalar Universitário de Coimbra, where he is hospitalized, in serious condition.

With no criminal record, the detainee should be heard this Tuesday, in the first judicial interrogation, for the application of coercive measures considered adequate.
