(CNN Spanish) — Some 4 million low-income Colombian households will receive their economic contribution from the Solidarity Income program in March, as announced by the Colombian Government last month.
In March the coverage of these subsidies will reach one million more people, going from more than 3 to just over 4 million households in extreme poverty and vulnerability. The program will give priority to registered households in extreme poverty in Sisbén IV.
This is what you should know about Solidarity Income for March 2022.
When will the Solidarity Income be delivered?
The Solidarity Income payment for March is expected to start the second week of the month, the government announced. The other payments will be made every two months in May, July, September and November.
Solidarity Income was an initiative that was created in 2020, initially to mitigate the impacts of the covid-19 pandemic, but it has been extended until December 2022, according to President Iván Duque at the end of February.
How much money will families receive?
As of March 2022, Solidarity Income beneficiaries will receive 190,000 pesos each month, which will accumulate to be paid every two months. In other words, each household is expected to receive 380,000 pesos (about US$98 at current exchange rates).
Remember that from July 2022 the payments will be differentiated depending on the Sisbén IV group in which the households are. (For more information read here)
Who will receive this money?
The beneficiaries will be families with limited economic resources identified in the Sisbén databases, which is a state survey to find out the socioeconomic conditions of families and classifies them by “their ability to generate income and quality of life,” according to the Department of National Planning.
This program will give economic aid to families who They are NOT beneficiaries of other programs such as Families in Action, Youth in Action, that have sales tax compensation, or the program for the Protection of the Elderly, Colombia Mayor.
How are the turns made?
Beneficiaries receive payments through their bank account (identified with their identity number) and they will be notified of the payment via text message.
Those who do not have a bank account will receive the money through payment operators established for that purpose or through a digital wallet.
Is it necessary to register to receive the benefit?
The selection of beneficiary families of this program is made with the information registered in the Sisbén. It does not carry out inscriptions or raffles.
