Merga Bütan Ski Center in Hakkari, which has become one of the most modern facilities in the region with investments and opened the season in the first stage last week, at an altitude of 2,800, hosts domestic and foreign ski lovers as well as athletes from the surrounding provinces.

30 ski athletes and 4 trainers from Van, who could not train in the snow due to the lack of expected precipitation this year, came to Hakkari with the support of the Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports.

The athletes, who went to the ski center 12 kilometers from the city center, served on two tracks, continued their preparations for the races to be held in Erzurum on 7-9 February, accompanied by their trainers.

“Service is provided with natural snow in Hakkari”

Ski trainer Abdullah Kıvanç said that they could not train because there was no snow in Van, so they came to Hakkari.

Kıvanç stated that there is artificial snow in most of the ski resorts that are open throughout the country, and that the ski center in Hakkari serves with natural snow.

“The quality and level of snow here is very good. The tracks are very suitable for athletes. The newly built treadmill is also a good chance for beginners. Good luck to the city. We subscribed here. We come here when there is no snow in Van. There is less snow this year, too. “It rained. Our ski center cannot provide service for that reason. We came with 4 trainers and 30 athletes. We would like to thank the officials of the Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports for their support. Our work is going well. We plan to stay here for another week.”

12-year-old national athlete Muhammet Emir Keskin explained that they could not train in the snow, so they came to Hakkari to camp. Keskin stated that they are happy to be able to train on snow.

“We are preparing for the first and the second leg and the Turkish championship. The tracks are excellent. The facility is also very nice. The new treadmill is also very good. It is easy to go up from there. Our instructors are also very interested and helpful. We are here for a week. Successfully representing Turkey abroad. I want.”

Aysima Vurgun, one of the athletes, also stated that they could not prepare enough for the competitions.

“We came here to make up for our shortcomings. There are tracks suitable for master and amateur skiers. We are also preparing here. I have been here before at the camp. Our work is going well.”
