At 108, Colette Maze still hasn’t stopped playing the piano. Passing through Côte-d’Or this Saturday, May 27, the oldest pianist in the world played in front of 500 people at Clos Vougeot.

From Piazzolla, to Schuman and even Debussy, the 108-year-old pianist Colette Maze performs classics in front of an audience of 500 people, at the Château du Clos Vougeot (Côte d’Or). In this jewel of the Burgundy vineyard, the artist impresses his audience. “We realize that she still has a century of piano practice in her hands“marvels a spectator.

This musician has been playing the piano since the age of three. Despite the reluctance of her parents, she joined the Normal School of Music in Paris in 1929, at the age of 15. Playing four hours a day, Colette Maze masters more than a hundred pieces.

It is food. Just as one needs coffee or lunch, I certainly need a connection between the music, my fingers and my body.

This intensive practice throughout his life is vital to him: “It is food. Just as one needs coffee or lunch, I certainly need a connection between the music, my fingers and my body. To live well, I need all this“, she confides.

“She loves wine, chocolate and cheese“, enumerates Fabrice Maze to explain the longevity of his mother. Colette Maze adds that her secret of youth lies in the fact that she practiced a lot of dance, gymnastics and rhythmics, elements which would really explain the maintenance of her abilities over time and the absence of osteoarthritis. The centenarian also does not take medication.

Colette Maze is inducted into the brotherhood of the Knights of Tastevin, at the Château du Clos Vougeot (Côte d'Or).
