A man who shot his daughter in a courthouse was acquitted in Pakistan.
In the city of Karachi, Pakistan, 65-year-old Amir Zaman Mehsud shot and killed his own daughter just inside the courthouse because she got married without her parents’ consent. The court acquitted him, considering that a guilty verdict “would not contribute to the betterment of society”, and the family “forgave” him.

Amir Zaman Mehsud killed his 20-year-old daughter in the court premises on January 23, 2023, and injured two other people, including a police officer. Criminal proceedings have been opened against him by the police department of the city court.
According to court documents, Hajr’s husband’s daughter married of her own free will, while her parents tried to marry her off to someone else. Then the family reported her abduction.
In January, she was summoned to court to testify in the case of her disappearance, when Hajra’s father opened fire and killed her on the spot. Her husband was not injured in the incident.
