ICR will hold Ukrainian judges accountable for illegal sentences to Russian deputies
The Investigative Committee of Russia (TFR) intends to prosecute all Ukrainian prosecutors and judges for illegal sentences against Russian deputies and senators. This was reported to Lente.ru in the press service of the department.
The TFR referred to media reports that 20 deputies of the State Duma of Russia in Ukraine were sentenced in absentia.
The Chairman of the ICR, Alexander Bastrykin, instructed his subordinates, as part of the investigation of the criminal case on the illegal prosecution of Russian parliamentarians, to identify specific officials from among the employees of the prosecutor’s office and the judiciary of Ukraine who made illegal decisions.
In February, it was reported that Ukraine began sentencing deputies of the Russian State Duma in absentia for appealing to President Vladimir Putin to recognize the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics and ratify the relevant treaties in February 2022. Russian parliamentarians received 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
