Benfica coach Roger Schmidt was satisfied with Benfica’s performance this Friday, after the 1-0 victory against Portimonense, and revealed the reason for Enzo Fernández’s absence
“Now he has a clean slate. As I said yesterday, it is clear that what he [Enzo Fernández] did it was not correct. That’s why he wasn’t on the team today. But I’m happy to say that starting tomorrow I’ll see you at training. He is our player, we count on him and we need him to be champions. Happy to have you as our player. And now we can focus on football again”, said Roger Schmidt, at the press conference, about the absence of Enzo Fernández.
“Whoever wants to be champion has to win and win every game. It’s always important to have a good reaction after a defeat and that’s what we did today”, he added, after the triumph against Portimonense.
The coach considered that the marker could have been more dilated. “We created a lot of chances and we just needed to score more. We could have scored at least three, four or five goals,” he continued. “I don’t think we gave Portimonense any chances, they didn’t have a chance to score during the game,” he said.
Schmidt was still happy to return to Estádio da Luz. “We’re very happy to be back in Luz, it’s been a long time since we’ve played here and it’s like coming home. That’s what the players tried to do, to give our supporters a good night of football”, he concluded.
