Fourteen districts on the mainland are now under yellow warning due to the forecast of sometimes heavy showers that may occasionally be hail and accompanied by strong gusts of wind and thunderstorms, according to the IPMA.
The districts of Bragança, Viseu, Guarda, Vila Real, Castelo Branco, Aveiro, Braga, Coimbra, Leiria, Porto, Viana do Castelos and Viseu will have a yellow warning between 12 noon and 9 pm today, advances the Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).
In the districts of Setúbal and Lisbon the Yellow warning ends at 9 am today.
The IPMA forecast for today showers, sometimes heavy, hail and thunderstorms, with the wind from the south quadrant blowing sometimes strongly on the coast and in the highlands.
Forecasts point to a slight drop in maximum temperature in the Center and South and periods of very cloudy skies.
For the North and Center regions, periods of rain or showers are expected, sometimes heavy, hail and accompanied by thunderstorms.
The wind will blow weak to moderate (up to 30 kilometers/hour – km/h) from the south quadrant, blowing moderate to strong (25 to 40 km/h) on the west coast, with gusts of up to 70 km/h, decreasing in intensity in the region South from late afternoon.
In the highlands, the wind will be moderate to strong (30 to 45 km/h) from the southern quadrant, with gusts of up to 75 km/h.
