The PSP carried out, this weekend, a major operation to combat illegal racing, with changes to vehicles, called “tunning”, in an area of S. João da Madeira where the authorities have been verifying a concentration of dozens of people. One driver tried to flee for having the car altered and another was arrested for being drunk.

The operation began at around 10 pm, on Saturday night, when PSP elements surprised drivers in the industrial zone of Travessas, “with the purpose of detecting the practice of risky behavior while driving (namely, illegal racing and tuning). , as well as driving vehicles in a drunken state or without a legal license, responsible, in large part, for road accidents”, explains the PSP.

One of the detected drivers even tried to evade inspection, but ended up being intercepted by police teams, which were strategically placed in the vicinity of the site. “After being inspected, safely, his motor vehicle was seized, due to alteration of characteristics, having therefore been subject to extraordinary inspection”, added the PSP.

More than 50 vehicles were inspected and a driver, aged 52, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. He had a blood alcohol level of 1.44 grams. Six other drivers who were driving under the influence of alcohol were also charged. Two others were fined for not having a vehicle inspection and mandatory insurance.
