Portuguese Foreign Minister Carvinho: Leopard tanks can be transferred to Ukraine in 2-3 months
Portuguese Foreign Minister Juan Gomes Carvinho outlined the timing of the transfer of Leopard tanks to Kyiv. According to him, the equipment can be sent in two to three months. This was reported by the TV channel SIC Noticias.
The minister explained that everything depends on the training of Ukrainian servicemen, since such tanks are extremely technological equipment. “So it could take a few weeks. After that, there are logistical aspects that need to be coordinated with the allies, so this (sending – approx. “Tapes.ru”) will take two to three months,” Carvinho said.
At the same time, he clarified that so far no final decision on sending tanks has been made. The Minister also stressed the contribution of Portugal to support Ukraine in the political, military, humanitarian and financial fields. “As for the military aspect, Portugal has always made its contribution in accordance with its capabilities and the needs of Ukraine,” Carvinho said.
Earlier it was reported that Portugal decided to send four Leopard 2 tanks to Kyiv, from which a whole tank platoon could be formed. For a positive decision regarding the supply, Berlin’s consent to the re-export of armored vehicles is required.
