A plane with evacuated workers of the Azerbaijani embassy in Iran arrived in Baku. It is reported by TASS.
According to the agency, the body of the head of the security service of the embassy, Orkhan Askerov, who died during an armed attack on the diplomatic mission, as well as family members of Azerbaijani diplomats, were delivered on the same flight. Data on the number of evacuated Azerbaijani citizens is unknown.
Azerbaijani media outlets note that the Iranian authorities did not give the crew permission to take off for several hours, despite the fact that the evacuation board of Azerbaijan Airlines was completely ready to fly to Baku in the afternoon. The plane took off from Tehran to Baku at 20:30 local time (20:00 Moscow time).
On January 26, it became known about the attack on the Azerbaijani embassy in Tehran. An unknown man broke into the security post of the diplomatic mission and opened fire from a Kalashnikov assault rifle. As a result, one guard was killed and another was injured. The attacker has been arrested.
