Portimonense coach Paulo Sérgio lamented the team’s mistakes against Benfica.
“There’s not much to say when we conceded five goals. We have to congratulate the opponent who was much better and we have to look at ourselves. We conceded the goals with childish mistakes and we took risks in situations that were not necessary to risk. It’s my responsibility. Congratulations to the opponent. We all know the quality of Benfica. We ended up offering the game in the way we concede childish mistakes. Just look at the goals. We tried to turn the game around with Pedrão’s goal and we had an opportunity to score, but Benfica scored right away. We could have re-entered the game when it was 3-1, in Matos’ move to Yony. But we made childish mistakes and offered moves that Benfica took advantage of”, began by saying Paulo Sérgio, pointing out batteries for the next game.
“We are professionals and we have to be ready to compete for points. We put together a plan for that today, but we were left out of the game because of the way we defended certain moves. We had some promising attacks, but Benfica took advantage of our every mistake and we were out of the game. We have to clear our heads. Next week there’s more”, he concluded.
