Oscars 2023: these are the songs nominated for best original song

(CNN Spanish) — A flagship song can instantly remind us of a movie, and that is why there has been, since 1934, a category within the Oscars for best original song.

Among the winners are artists such as Eminem, who won the Oscar in 2003 for his song “Lose Yourself”; “My Heart Will Go On,” performed by Celine Dion, which was the iconic song from “Titanic”; or “Al otro lado del río” by Uruguayan singer-songwriter Jorge Drexler.

This year we could see the first time that the American composer Diane Warren wins the Oscar in this category, in which she has been nominated 13 other times but has not won on any occasion. It should be noted that Warren received an honorary Oscar but she has never raised the award for this category in a televised ceremony.

For the theme of “Top Gun: Maverick”, Gaga had the participation of her frequent collaborator Michael Tucker (Bloodpop) in the composition.

The actress also said on Instagram in April of last year that when she created the song she did not realize “the multiple layers that encompassed the heart of the film, my own psyche and the nature of the world in which we have been living.”

“I wanted to turn the music into a song where we share our deep need to be understood and to try to understand each other: a longing to be close when we feel so far apart, and the ability to celebrate the heroes of life,” added Gaga.

“Lift Me Up” from “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”

The song “Lift Me Up” is a tribute to Chadwick Boseman, who played Black Panther in the first movie, for the sequel to the Marvel character. It is the main theme of the tape and appears right in the credits of the production.

It was composed by Oscar winner Ludwig Göransson, Rihana, Ryan Coogler and Temilade Openiyi. She is played by Rihanna. This is the singer’s first Academy Award nomination.

“Naatu Naatu” from “RRR”

The nomination of this theme already writes history at the Oscars. It is the first song from India to be nominated for Academy Awards.

Earlier this month he won the Golden Globe for best original song. Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava perform the theme while Chandra Bose and MM Keeravani wrote the song.

“This Is A Life” from “Everything Everywhere All at Once”

We end the list of Oscar nominated songs with “This Is a Life”, written and performed by the Son Lux collective (Ian Chang, Rafig Bhatia and Ryan Lott) along with David Byrne, Mistki.

In a interview with Quest LoveBahtia said that the group came to the Daniels (the film’s directors) for their ability to “reconcile opposing tendencies” with their music.

About theme creation, Lott told TheWrap that he envisioned “a song where two voices sang together, but it was almost as if they were singing two different songs over the same piece of instrumental music, and then they came together in these moments of ecstasy, these little explosions of color and madness.”

Lott wrote the song in 20 minutes, he tells the publication, except for David Byrne’s contribution.
