According to the regional media, President Xiomara Castro announced in his statement that they declared a national emergency to curb the activities of drug trafficking, hitmen and illegal groups.

In the statement made by the Presidency Spokesperson, it was stated that hundreds of security forces were deployed in the border regions, and the statement was included, “With the instruction of the President, within the framework of the Comprehensive Security Plan, more than 600 public order soldiers and police set out to reinforce the border points.”

Strict controls are made on the entrances and exits to Honduras from the country’s neighbors El Salvador, Guatemala and Nicaragua.

Honduran authorities declared a state of emergency in more than a hundred neighborhoods in the capital Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula, where crime rates are high.

Honduras is among the countries in the region where criminal activities are most intense. The public is demanding solutions from the authorities for murder, kidnapping, extortion and ransom.
