The two Sporting athletes win the title for the first time.
Miguel Marques and Catarina Ribeiro, from Sporting, were crowned, this Saturday, Portuguese champions of the 10 thousand meters, in an event that took place in Burjassot, in Spain, in addition to the Championship of Spain and the Iberian Distance Tournament.
Miguel Marques finished the race in 10th place, with 28:52.42 minutes (personal record), which was won by Spaniard Ílias Fifa (27:59.76), and became national champion for the first time, after being second in 2021 and third in 2020 and 2022.
In the women’s race, Portuguese athletes have never been in the lead and the first to cross the finish line was Sporting player Catarina Ribeiro, with 33:03.10 minutes, in eighth place, who thus became national champion for the first time in her career.
Catarina Ribeiro, who achieved a qualifying time for the 10,000 meters European Cup, in Pacé, France, on June 3, finished the race with more than a minute of advantage over the second Portuguese, Joana Ferreira, from Recreio de Águeda (34.09.12 minutes), which was 13th.
After them came Sara Duarte (SC Braga), who was 14th (34:18.55 minutes), and Carla Martinho (RD Águeda), who finished 18th (35:00.52). Salomé Rocha did not finish the race.
