    Metro do Porto canceled the special operation scheduled for New Year’s Eve following the cancellation of the festivities in Porto due to worsening weather conditions.

    In a statement, Metro do Porto points out that due to bad weather, the special operation scheduled for the night of December 31 and early morning of January 1 was cancelled, with the operation remaining “in everything identical to that of any Saturday or Sunday”, between 6 am and 1 am, “as usual”.

    The cancellation of the festivities due to bad weather also led the Sociedade de Transportes Coletivos do Porto (STCP) to cancel the special operation scheduled for New Year’s Eve, namely, the two special connecting lines to and from Queimódromo do Porto and line 500, which would be reinforced up to the Anémona roundabout.

    On the 31st of December, the service assumes the “usual Saturday schedule” and, during the night and early morning, the rest of the service is maintained on the lines of STCP.

    The Porto Chamber revealed today that the New Year celebrations in the city were canceled due to worsening weather conditions and the forecast of heavy rain, wind and sea turmoil.

    The festivities were also canceled in the neighboring cities of Vila Nova de Gaia and Matosinhos.

    In Porto, the New Year festivities were going to take place in two different parts of the city, at Queimódromo, where concerts by Fernando Daniel, Diogo Piçarra and Moullinex were planned, and a fireworks show, and at Praça da República, where fireworks were also planned. fireworks.

    In a statement, the Porto Chamber said that the musical (outdoor) and pyrotechnic festivities in the three cities were canceled due to bad weather.

    “Following the recommendations of the Civil Protection and the warnings to the population, Rui Moreira, Eduardo Vítor Rodrigues and Luísa Salgueiro cancel the musical celebrations, held abroad, and pyrotechnics scheduled for the night of New Year’s Eve, in the respective cities”, stresses the municipality .

    The Porto Chamber recalls that forecasts point to a worsening of weather conditions, with heavy rain, wind and sea agitation, during the night of Saturday, December 31, and the early hours of January 1, 2023.

    According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA), persistent and sometimes heavy rain is expected, and strong wind, with gusts of up to 80 kilometers an hour between 9 pm today and 9 am on Saturday.

    “The most critical period, which corresponds to the duration of the orange warning, is scheduled between 0:00 am and 12:00 noon on January 1st”, notes the Porto Chamber, recalling that maritime agitation with waves of four four and a half meters between 12 noon on Saturday and 12 noon on Sunday.

    The three municipalities on the Atlantic Front still advise against the traditional bathing in the sea on the 1st of January.
