Lele Pons and Guaynaa, a married couple of Latin music and humor stars: “We make a perfect pack for the final product”

Eleonora Pons (Caracas, Venezuela, 26 years old), singer and content creator known as Lele Pons, enters the room of the Madrid hotel where the interview takes place dressed in a spectacular pink suit and sunglasses —an allergic reaction a cosmetic has given a puffy eye. She does it without her partner, life partner and profession, Jean Carlos Santiago Pérez (Caguas, Puerto Rico, 30 years old), musically known as Guaynaa. But she does not arrive alone, a team of professionals accompanies her until the man who just a few weeks ago became her husband appears. “To have warned you that you were so pretty,” Guaynaa exclaims as she crosses the door. He, unlike his wife, is dressed in more casual clothes. On March 4 they said “I do” in Miami, in what is already considered one of the weddings of the year and in which they were surrounded by internationally known faces, such as Paris Hilton, Chayanne or Sebastián Yatra. Together they have more than 60 million followers on Instagram alone (52 of them on Lele’s account), which allowed them to lower their expensive wedding from a budget of $600,000 to $400,000 thanks to sponsorships from various brands.

Since that day they have not stopped traveling: Miami, Dubai, Mexico, now Spain and, later, Puerto Rico. All this to promote capitulations, the album that is published on April 6 and that they have produced together in order to spend more time together after the wedding. “She has her pros and cons to her. Before, I waited to see my beloved when I got home, but when you’re fighting with her in the studio and you get home and it’s the same… The good thing is that communication between us has improved a lot,” Guaynaa defends to EL PAÍS and he adds, looking at his wife: “We make a perfect pack for the final product.” The samples of complicity between the two are repeated throughout the interview held on Wednesday, while, excited, they tell how the creation process has been: “There are 12 songs and it has everything: pop, bachata, ballads… duet songs, solo and a featuring [una colaboración]. But mine alone is the best”, responds Lele Pons with a laugh.

little boy It is the song that began this new phase of their lives and that was accompanied by a video clip with images of the best moments of their wedding. “As the first single, it has the necessary content to accompany us during this stage. It has things of love, but at the same time it is very commercial. We want people to enjoy it”, explains the Puerto Rican. It is not the first song that they release as a duet. In 2020, they threw you notice, which accumulates 392 million views on Spotify and which became a success thanks, in part, to the power of social networks, of which the Venezuelan knows a lot. For more than 10 years she has been an international star due to the humorous videos that she published on the now non-existent application Vine and that she would later transfer to YouTube, a channel on which she is followed by almost 18 million people. But her true passion has always been music. “I don’t do this for fashion. I sang opera, I left it for Vine, a friend offered me to sing with him and that was when I wanted to return to music”, recalls the Venezuelan.

They met in 2019, when Lele was producing a song with Lyanno, singer and friend of Guaynaa. “He told me that they were making a video with Lele and I told him: ‘Little brother, I haven’t seen you for a long time. Let me come over to give you a hug,” Guaynaa explains about that request with ulterior motives that surprises Lele: “I didn’t know this! Also, I said: ‘Why is he here? The singer then recalls what that first meeting was like: “I arrived perfumed and with a jacket. I never wear a jacket. If you see me with her… worry.” The laughter of the couple and her team flood the atmosphere before the confession and in the meantime good vibes, Lele sentences: “Either you’re cold or Megan Fox is out there.”

After three years of dating, the couple walked down the aisle in early March. A wedding that included luxury guests such as Paris Hilton, Camila Cabello, Sebastián Yatra (with whom Guaynaa has covered ideal girl), who was accompanied by Aitana (Pons sang Phone with her) and Manuel Turizo. The videos of the celebration flooded the social networks and those present made all their followers participate, in an indirect way, in the great event. “She It all happened very quickly, but we had a good time. There are points that I did not remember, but thanks to the videos I say: ‘Wow, it’s true, this happened,’ recalls the content creator. One of the moments that went viral the fastest was the singer’s dance with her uncle-in-law, Chayanne, and that she also remembers with great affection: “I was also very moved when I was walking down the aisle. It was very exciting to see my dad by my side.” For her husband, the most special thing was her wedding dance: “When we were dancing to the first song with Natalia Jiménez singing… It was very impressive to know that she was there singing and I was looking at her [a Lele]”.

Undoubtedly, the anecdote they remember most fondly is the one related to their dog. Toby, in charge of guarding the alliances. “The dog had a tie. And while we were getting married, he started jumping. The wedding was like in a field, so my feet were full of dirt,” recalls Guaynaa, to which Lele replies: “I remember you telling me to control the dog and me telling you: ‘If I’m marrying you, how am I going to control it!”

Three years in which they have learned from each other and have grown both personally and professionally: “Guaynaa has taught me that not everyone should be trusted. I think people mean well, and they don’t.” On the other hand, the learning that the Puerto Rican takes away from his wife is that of having fun: “You have to enjoy everything. I think: ‘Many positive things are happening to you, take advantage of it.’ That’s something I learned from her.” Although her paths have come together in every possible way, her musical future will not be linked: “I want to continue with my musical career, but apart,” emphasizes the artist.

In recent days, a photo of Lele with her friends has gone viral on social networks: “Body positivity. Love you girls! They are beautiful!”, he wrote on his Instagram account —in which he accumulates 52 million followers— accompanying a photo with two of her friends showing off her cellulite. Given her comments, she replies: “The day there is no criticism of that, which I think is something too normal for women, I will stop publishing this content.” And she adds: “All women have cellulite, even a little. They told me: ‘You have to exercise’, but that’s not how it works, it’s genetic”.

For the couple these have been weeks of a lot of work. In addition to the preparations for the wedding, the production of the album and its promotion, they have also embarked on a project related to the cinema that they cannot talk about yet. “We are very tired. We haven’t stopped since the wedding, but it’s work. Then we will have another honeymoon, at least two weeks, to relax.” They are not just a married couple, they have also become confidants, friends and are now closer than ever. “It is strange to say that we are married, that you are my husband,” Lele emphasizes, and Guaynaa responds: “It is hard to say, but it is due to a lack of habit.”
