The “Health Days in Bolhão” project started this Friday, an initiative of the Porto City Council that aims to promote food and health literacy. The aim is to make Mercado do Bolhão “an active agent in promoting healthy habits in the community”.
In this new program, there will be the project “NABo – Nutrition and Food is in Bolhão” in partnership with the Department of Health and Quality of Life, Youth and Sports. The first rubric, “NABo for lunch,” consists of nutrition/eating conversations with experts. There will be sessions on the second Friday of each month at 12 noon.
The second heading, “NABo for the market”, includes training sessions for traders, in order to demystify food myths or beliefs, among other topics that may be proposed. The first will be on Monday, April 24th at 3 pm. There will be a session on the last Friday of each month and pre-registration is required.
“Workshop’s NABo” is the third section of the project and is aimed at young people. It has ludic-pedagogical training sessions in nutrition and healthy eating, involving the food supply on the market. Sessions will take place on the third Friday of each month at 3 pm.
In partnership with Pelouro da Educação, the project “In the morning Begins the Day”, aimed at students of the 1st cycle of basic education in the public network of Porto, will be resumed. It will begin with a theoretical part on healthy eating. In the second part, the children will be able to choose the products on the market stalls to later prepare their breakfast. There will be one session per week on Wednesdays at 9.30 am, with the first scheduled for May 3rd.
In the presentation of the programme, which took place this Friday, the collaboration protocol between the Municipality and the Faculty of Nutrition and Food Sciences of the University of Porto was signed.
This protocol kicks off the “Bolhão+Saudável” project, developed by students of Nutrition Sciences, guided by faculty members. The sessions will take place once a month, on the Wednesday or the last Friday, with the aim of “introducing diversified activities and valuing seasonal products”.
“Egg and Egg Products” is the theme of the first session, on April 28th. It covers “challenges launched to visitors and the digital community of Mercado do Bolhão, as well as the training and creation of audiovisual content together with traders”. Next month, the topic will be “Aromatic Herbs as an Alternative to Salt”.
