Ribera bets on a “convincing and attractive” alternative to the left of the PSOE
The third vice president and minister for the Ecological Transition, Teresa Ribera, number two of the PSOE for Madrid in the 23-J elections, has opted for a “convincing” alternative to the left of her party and has wished “luck” to those involved in that space that the Sumar platform of the also Vice President and Minister of Labor, Yolanda Díaz, tries to bring together.
interviewed on the show More than one of Onda Cero, expressly ask if he preferred a strong alternative to the left of the PSOE or a fragmented space that would make the vote converge towards the Socialists, Ribera has stated that the PSOE aspires to govern alone, but believes that it is “good for the voters left that there is an alternative that is convincing and attractive”. “There is room for both,” she said, wishing “the best” to the members of Sumar and Podemos, who are speeding up their options to agree on a joint list.
As for the poor results of his party in the municipal and regional elections of 28-M, he has attributed them to the fact that the debate during the campaign has focused more on “emotions” than on the management and results obtained by the Government in the management of four “complicated and intense” years. “We have all been very overwhelmed by so many difficulties (pandemic, war, inflation), we have dedicated ourselves more to managing than explaining management and we all need a break. In this environment, it is easier for a facile slogan with an anti-democratic charge to sink in than an explanation of the proposals”, he explained. “There has been a lack of time for the explanation,” he summarized.
Insisted by Carlos Alsina if the voters have not judged a reality but a “distortion of reality” presented by the parties of the right, he has insisted that “more about slogans than about proposals” have been debated in a campaign “with more load emotional” than previous ones. “We thought that the main task of a government is to solve the difficulties of citizens, but in the campaign, more than debating proposals, we have revolved around emotions”, and he added that “this deserves a reflection on what is expected of governments and institutions”. In any case, he concludes that the PSOE “lost little, the PP absorbed Ciudadanos and the left to the left of the PSOE appeared divided.
