The Russian occupation forces are constrained by the actions of the defense of Ukraine.
Almost 6,000 professional mercenaries of the Russian PMK “Wagner” take part in the battles for the city Bakhmut Donetsk region.
This was stated by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the United States, General Mark Milley, during a speech that was broadcast channel CNN.
The American commander clarified that they are supported by another 20-30 thousand recruited recruits, among whom are many convicts from Russian prisons.
“The Russian Armed Forces are causing a lot of death and destruction to these guys. In the last 20 days, the Russians have not made any progress in or around Bakhmut. For the Russian Armed Forces, this place has turned into a slaughterhouse,” Milli said.
At the same time, the chairman of the committee of the chiefs of staff emphasized the danger of PMC “Wagner” due to its activities in other countries, in particular, in Africa. Most of the mercenaries are former soldiers of the Russian army.
“This is a dangerous group, they are quite large and powerful. Perhaps they are represented somewhere in Europe and the Middle East. A few years ago in Syria, a battalion of the Wagnerites attacked our positions, but was destroyed,” the American military concluded.
The situation in Bakhmut
Bakhmut of the Donetsk region remains the main target of the offensive of the Russian Armed Forces. The occupiers do not stop shelling the city.
Russian efforts around Bakhmut have probably reached a climax. And despite the fact that attacks can be restored, it will not bring significant gains. This is stated in the analytical report of the American Institute for the Study of War.
The Ministry of Defense of Great Britain estimated that the offensive of the Russian Federation on Bakhmut stops and that the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation can shift their attention to the Avdiyivka regions and the Svatove-Kreminna direction.
The spokesman for the Eastern Group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Colonel Serhiy Cherevaty, warned that the recent decrease in the number of Russian ground attacks near Bakhmut needs further analysis. He noted that on March 25, Russian troops carried out 18 ground attacks near Bakhmut, but recently 40-50 attacks per day have been carried out in this area, assuming the exhaustion of the forces of the “Wagner” PMC, which are no longer able to continue assaults alone, but can increase its pace to previous levels with the help of Russian regular forces.
