Tokyo strongly condemned Pyongyang’s actions.
On the night of Thursday, March 16, North Korea launched an intercontinental ballistic missile. It fell into the Sea of Japan, but outside the exclusive economic zone of Japan at approximately 01:20 (Kyiv time).
There are currently no reports of damage to planes or ships, the agency informs Kyodo with reference to the Japanese government.
South Korea’s military said North Korea had launched a ballistic missile from the Sunan area of Pyongyang. She was in the air for 70 minutes and flew about 1,000 kilometers, reaching a maximum height of 6 kilometers.
“…the missile fell about 200 km west of Oshima-Oshima, a tiny island off the west coast of Hokkaido in northern Japan. Tokyo lodged a protest with Pyongyang and strongly condemned the missile launch,” the statement said.
North Korea conducted another missile test just hours before the start of a summit in Tokyo, where Japan and South Korea are going to discuss, in particular, issues of cooperation, given the threat from Pyongyang. Talks between Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol will also take place soon.
It will be recalled that on March 14, North Korea tested two short-range ballistic missiles, launching them towards the country’s eastern waters.
We also reported that the US and South Korea announced the largest military exercises in the last five years. They started on March 13 and will continue until March 23. In this regard, Pyongyang threatened to take “unprecedented decisive measures”.
