China actually strongly supports the zone of influence of the Russian Federation in the so-called “post-Soviet space”.
The conflict between the Russian Federation and China over territorial claims in Siberia or the Far East has been overestimated in Western think tanks, intelligence and political circles.
He told about it in an interview TSN.ua Yuriy Poita, a researcher at the Taiwanese National Defense and Security Research Institute.
According to him, there are no signs of conflict between these countries in the region, where territorial claims may exist, and there is no contradiction regarding influence in, say, Central Asia.
“Of course, there are some contradictions, but they will not lead to the fact that China will take any measures against Russia. We must understand that both Russia and China support the distribution of spheres of influence in an extraordinary way. Despite the fact that in the Chinese official discourse it is said that all countries are equal, there are no big or small countries, all countries should communicate and have equal rights according to the UN charter, China is actually very supportive, in particular, of the Russian Federation’s zone of influence on so the so-called post-Soviet space”, – noted the expert.
According to him, such “respect” for the zone of influence of the Russian Federation does not allow us to conclude that China can seize the territories of the Far East.
“Now most of the armed forces of the Russian Federation, including those stationed in the central part of Russia and in the Far East, are on the battlefield. In fact, there is an exposed front there, and China understands this very well. If Russia did this, then it trusted China and China is not taking any action to seize these territories,” he noted.
