Vienna will abide by its obligations under international law.
In Austria, they announced that they would arrest the president-dictator of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putinif he finds himself on the territory of the country, in view of the warrant issued by the International Criminal Court.
This was stated by the Minister of EU Affairs and the Constitution in the Government of Austria, Karolina Edtstadler, writes Tagesspiegel.
It is emphasized that Vienna will comply with its obligations under international law and criminal law.
“I was a judge in criminal cases in my civilian job. The issuance of an international arrest warrant by the ICC (International Criminal Court, – Ed.) means that if he enters Austrian soil, he must be arrested,” she said.
We will remind, in the middle of March 2023 it became known that the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for the head of the Kremlin Vladimir Putin. It is, in particular, about crimes committed in the occupied territories of Ukraine – the illegal deportation of children to the Russian Federation.
Moscow did not take long to respond to the ICJ’s decision. The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation opened a “criminal case” against the prosecutor and judges in The Hague who previously issued the warrant. There they assure that the dictator allegedly enjoys immunity as the head of state.
