A vaccination campaign against the polio epidemic was launched in Ghana.
The campaign launched in cooperation with the government of Ghana and the World Health Organization (WHO) aims to vaccinate more than 6 million children under the age of 5 across the country.
WHO Representative to Ghana, Dr. Francis Kasolo, in his statement, stated that follow-up and proactive intervention is needed to prevent the epidemic.
Kasolo also called for a broader coalition of all stakeholders to tackle polio and other public health emergencies.
In Africa, this year, polio was detected in countries such as Nigeria, Gambia, Uganda, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Mali, Niger, Chad and Sudan, as well as Ghana.
