    In the statement made by the Directorate of Communications, “Our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has appointed Mr. Haluk Görgün as the Head of Defense Industries.” it was said.

    Who is Haluk Görgün?

    prof. Dr. Haluk GÖRGÜN was born in 1973 in Istanbul. He completed his undergraduate and graduate studies at Yıldız Technical University, Department of Electrical Engineering, and his doctorate at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York, USA in 2003.

    2004-2005 at the University of Connecticut after graduating from his Ph.D.
    He did post-doctoral studies between the years. He became an associate professor in 2008 and a professor in 2013 at Yıldız Technical University, where he worked as an assistant professor between 2005-2008.

    Yıldız Technical University, Control and Automation Engineering founding head of the department, Prof. Dr. Haluk GÖRGÜN served as the Head of Control and Automation Engineering Department between 2009-2013. During his Presidency of the Department, he was the founder of many graduate programs.

    prof. Dr. Haluk GÖRGÜN served as the Turkey Delegate of the European Union 7th Framework Program Energy Area between 2007-2010. He is a member of Yıldız Technical University Technopark, BAP Coordinator, Science Application and Research Center board of directors. Dr. Haluk GÖRGÜN served as the Editor of YTU Sigma Journal of Engineering and Sciences between 2010-2013. He served as Deputy Director of Yıldız Technical University Graduate School of Sciences, Director of Graduate School of Sciences and Vice Rector.

    prof. Dr. Haluk GÖRGÜN was elected as an Associate Member of the Turkish Academy of Sciences in 2013. Having served as the Rector of Gebze Technical University between November 2014 and April 2018, Prof. Dr. Haluk GÖRGÜN has many national and international articles/statements, publications and projects.

    During his presidency, he was selected as the Rector of the Year in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 in organizations organized by different organizations due to his pioneering contributions to university-industry cooperation.

    Having served as a member of the Board of Directors at Informatics Valley, Prof. Dr. Haluk GÖRGÜN took part in many commissions and boards at TUBITAK and YÖK. He is also the chairman of the Turkish Defense Industry Council, which is under the umbrella of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB). He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Gebze Technical Education and Research Foundation, which he contributed significantly to the establishment of. Dr. Haluk GÖRGÜN is a member of the board of trustees in many institutions such as the Turkish Basic Sciences Research Foundation, Yıldız Technical University Foundation and OSTİM Technical University.
